Juventus is actively preparing for the upcoming January transfer window, with recent internal discussions at Continassa focusing on strategic market moves. Director of Football Cristiano Giuntoli and Sporting Director Giovanni Manna convened with key collaborators to assess potential options. The club faces a pressing need for midfield reinforcements, exacerbated by Paul Pogba's requested four-year ban and Nicolò Fagioli's suspension until May due to a betting scandal. As things stand, the squad's midfield depth is notably thin, prompting consideration of both short-term loan solutions and significant long-term investments.

Targeting Koopmeiners: A Strategic Investment

Among the primary targets for a substantial investment is Teun Koopmeiners, the 25-year-old Dutch midfielder from Atalanta. Koopmeiners has been on Juventus's radar for several seasons, and Giuntoli admired him during his tenure at Napoli. This ambitious pursuit, however, is complicated by Atalanta's firm stance; the club rejected a €48 million offer from Napoli in August, determined to retain their star player at least until summer. Despite a recent €200 million capital increase, Juventus cannot simply issue a €45-48 million cheque without careful financial planning.

Funding the Move: Player Sales

Juventus's bid for Koopmeiners is intrinsically linked to a strategy of player sales. The club aims to "sell to buy," with three promising talents attracting significant European interest: Matias Soulé, currently on loan at Frosinone, Samuel Iling Jr, and Kenan Yildiz. Giuntoli recently visited England to gauge Premier League clubs' interest in these young players. Newcastle and Crystal Palace, for instance, reportedly hold high regard for Soulé, who has impressed with six goals and one assist this season. An offer of €20-25 million plus bonuses for Soulé would be difficult for Juventus to decline. Similarly, Iling Jr, with limited playing time and a contract ending in 2025, could fetch around €15 million plus bonuses. While Juventus prefers to keep Yildiz, clubs like Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund might present compelling offers exceeding €30 million. The sale of two key youngsters, likely Soulé and Iling, combined with savings from Pogba's situation, would provide the necessary funds to seriously pursue Koopmeiners, though Atalanta's willingness to negotiate remains a crucial factor.
