CD Projekt Red has confirmed The Witcher 4 targets a 2028 release. This sparks questions about physical disc availability. Sony plans to cease PlayStation disc support by 2028; Microsoft is expected to follow.
Disc Manufacturing Challenges Ahead
CD Projekt joint CEO Michał Nowakowski stated the studio holds "no influence" over console manufacturers' decisions. He clarified: if companies like Sony halt disc production by 2028, a physical disc for The Witcher 4 would be unfeasible.

Commitment to Tangible Collectibles
Despite potential digital-only distribution, Nowakowski emphasized CD Projekt Red's dedication to providing "tangible collectible things." The executive teased a "box" for The Witcher 4, "for sure," with "feelies" inside. This caters to their own team's "nerd" sensibilities. For what it's worth, fans will have something physical to open and enjoy, even without a game disc.
Expansive Witcher Universe Plans
The Witcher 4 begins a new trilogy. Witcher 5 and 6 are slated for release within six years, potentially concluding by 2034. The studio also develops The Witcher 3 Remastered and a new expansion, "Songs of the Past." Cyberpunk 2, a Witcher multiplayer title, and a Scopely partnership game are also in progress.
