Bentley has unveiled its new Supersports model in Monterey, California, marking a significant departure from the luxury automaker's recent focus on electric vehicles and all-wheel-drive systems. This stripped-out, driver-focused machine emphasizes raw performance, powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine driving only the rear wheels, a bold move for the brand. For what it's worth, this car aims squarely at enthusiasts seeking an unadulterated driving experience.

Engineering a Lighter, Sharper Bentley

The Supersports, weighing under 4,407 lbs (1,999 kg), stands as Bentley's lightest offering in 85 years, achieved by removing rear seats and foregoing the hybrid powertrain and all-wheel drive. Its specially developed 4.0-liter V8, featuring a strengthened block, new cylinder heads, and larger turbos, produces 657 hp (490 kW) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. This focus on reduced weight and increased power underscores a shift towards a more visceral connection between driver and road.

Advanced Dynamics and Aerodynamics

Beyond its potent engine, the Supersports integrates advanced chassis technology. Both front and rear axles benefit from 48V active anti-roll bars, capable of reacting in a third of a second to apply substantial reaction torque, ensuring the car remains flat through corners. Recalibrated twin-valve dampers and air suspension across Touring, Bentley, and Sport modes further enhance its dynamic capabilities. A distinctive aerodynamic package, including a front splitter, winglets, and a large carbon-fiber spoiler, generates over 661 lbs (300 kg) more downforce than the Continental GT Speed, with its aero balance shifting rearward at higher speeds.
