Neigbuy Cyberattack Exposes Data of 33,000 Customers, Police Investigate Scams

A suspected cyberattack has exposed the private data of 33,054 customers using Neigbuy, a group-buying platform owned by TVB. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data confirmed on Tuesday it received a breach notification from the company on Sunday, initiating a formal investigation. Police have also recorded six reports of scammers impersonating Neigbuy staff, indicating a concerning trend of potential follow-up fraud.

Investigation Underway, User Data Compromised

The security incident, first detected on August 24, involved unauthorized access to customer names, addresses, emails, phone numbers, and online shopping histories. This breach underscores the persistent threats faced by digital platforms. The privacy watchdog urged affected users to change account passwords and enable multi-factor authentication immediately. For what it's worth, vigilance against suspicious contacts remains paramount to prevent further exploitation.
