Sonos has officially unveiled its new Beam Ultra soundbar, a premium addition to its mid-size audio lineup, promising a significantly enhanced home theater experience. Pre-orders for the device commence today, with general availability slated for September 29 at a suggested retail price of $699. This refresh marks a pivotal moment for Sonos, as it introduces advanced spatial sound capabilities following several years since the second-generation Beam.
Enhanced Audio Architecture and Dolby Atmos
The Beam Ultra dramatically boosts its driver count from five to nine, incorporating five tweeters and four low-profile woofers. Crucially, the inclusion of upward-facing drivers enables the soundbar to deliver true 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos, moving beyond software-based spatial sound simulation. While dedicated ceiling-mounted speakers offer ultimate precision, this hardware upgrade should provide a noticeable improvement over the standard Beam. The company also integrated AI Speech Enhancement, a feature with four adjustable levels via the Sonos app, ensuring dialogue remains crystal clear during playback, which for what it's worth, is a welcome addition for movie buffs.

New Headphones and Software Updates
Alongside the Beam Ultra, Sonos also introduced the Sonos Ace Ultra, a new model of over-ear headphones, expanding its personal audio offerings. Furthermore, a substantial software update is in development, designed to provide users with greater control over their entire audio setup. These releases underscore Sonos's strategic push to innovate across its product ecosystem, addressing both home entertainment and personal listening needs.
