Rebecca Yarros, the acclaimed author behind the bestselling "Fourth Wing" fantasy romance series, has officially unveiled "Threshing Day" as the title for her anticipated new book. This collection of 13 short stories, featuring beloved characters from The Empyrean series, is set to launch on September 29, 2026, with preorders already available.
Anticipation Builds for New Empyrean Installment
Yarros first teased an untitled Empyrean project in April, sparking immediate fan speculation and driving the mystery book to the number two spot on Amazon's bestseller list solely based on preorders. The official title reveal coincided with "Conscription Day," a pivotal event within the series where cadets face a life-or-death challenge to become dragon riders. The deluxe edition promises 16 original full-color art pieces by Joe Requeza. As it turns out, reader favorite Xaden's story, a long-requested point-of-view, will be a part of this collection and also published on her website.

Series Popularity and Future Plans
While "Threshing Day" offers a fresh dive into the world, Yarros confirmed she remains actively writing book four of the main series, keeping fans eagerly awaiting its release date. The Empyrean series has seen immense success, with "Fourth Wing" published in May 2023, "Iron Flame" in November 2023, and "Onyx Storm" in January 2025. This burgeoning popularity has even led to a "Fourth Wing" TV series currently under development at Amazon MGM Studios and Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society.
