Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Tuesday condemned the Trump administration's social media "memes" and "throwing shade" targeting Canada amid a growing trade dispute. His comments addressed reports of U.S. officials mocking the Canadian military and President Donald Trump's suggestion to rename Lake Ontario "Lake America."
Urging Serious Trade Negotiations
Carney affirmed Canada's pursuit of a "mutually beneficial trade deal that respects Canadian sovereignty," including the right to protect Quebec's culture and French language. He insisted serious discussions would begin "when the Americans stop doing memes, stop throwing shade, stop trying to be tough and start being serious."
